I am a recent graduate of California State University-Stanislaus, earning my second bachelor’s degree, which is in Nursing. I had a prior degree in Psychology from the University of the City of Manila in the Philippines, where I worked afterwards as a support representative for a U.S based retail software company. I worked my way up as a senior subject matter expert through my excellent leadership, teaching, and communication skills. In 2016, I left for the U.S to be with my husband and start a family.
I have always wanted to pursue a career in nursing ever since my grandmother passed away, and she was the inspiration that drove me to leave the tech industry and begin what would be my second career. I first started as a certified nurse assistant, a job I found challenging but deeply rewarding as I worked side-by-side with nurses in taking care of acute and long-term care patients. The new experience further fueled my passion for nursing the elderly, sick, and disabled so after giving birth to my son in 2017, I went back to school and attended Los Medanos College in Pittsburg, CA to complete my pre-requisite courses preparatory to nursing school. While attending school, I worked as a Laboratory and Teacher Assistant for Human Anatomy for a semester and then went back to working as a CNA for another year before getting accepted at CSU Stanislas to attend their full-time accelerated nursing program.
As a nursing student, I gained substantial nursing experiences from my clinical rotations in the medical-surgical/telemetry/orthopedic units, pediatrics, maternity, behavioral health, and public health. I am especially passionate when it comes to caring for the elderly because I grew up very close to my grandmother, who passed away due to pneumonia in 2018. She has become my inspiration in providing competent care for the sick adult community. I want to be the best nurse that I can possibly be for them, and for this reason plan to specialize in Adult Care and Geriatrics in the future.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my husband and son, going out to hike or try different restaurants. Every year, I read at least one book from my long bucket list of good reads, and travel with my family to at least one place that’s out-of-state or out-of-the-country.
